And Finally was devised and written by Stagekids' older group. The concept evolved from ideas the group tried out in their usual Thursday evening workshops and this was the end result. The idea was was that a long-running TV current affairs programme was due to be taken off air and was taking a look back through its archives for its last ever broadcast.
We began at the 1940s which we felt was when TV really started to get off the ground, and worked our way back to the present but missing out every other decade - too much to cover otherwise! We wrote brief "sketches" which we hoped gave a good flavour of the decade in question - fashions, music, major events and news stories of the time.

Good Evening and welcome to the SKN Studio and the final ever broadcast of our news and
cultural affairs programme. The broadcast tonight will feature many important headlines from both today
and years past. We hope our dip into the archives will bring back some memories for our older viewers. Enjoy the show! Mark Edwards (SKN Studio Anchor) |

We started off in the 1940s where we remembered the second World War and what it was like for those going off to war and those staying behind. The soldiers went off to war hoping that the lyrics of "We'll meet again" would indeed prove true. Fortunately no lives were lost from this particular battalion and all returned safely in time for a boogie to "In the Mood" and a 1940's fashion show. Other items covered were UFO sightings in the US and highlights from the 1948 London Olympic games. |

Music was definitely a major defining aspect of the sixties. This segment got off to a toe-tapping, head-nodding start with a selection of the finest songs from the Motown genre. Technology had certainly moved on in the last 20 years and we were able to recreate the excitement of the first man on the moon. We then came back down to earth for a round-up of some of the major sporting acheivements from the sixties - highlights from the decade's three Olympic games and of course England's footie triumph in the 1966 world cup. This segment ended as it began - with music. This time a couple of numbers from "The Beatles". Those wigs were fantastic lads. |

After a short commercial break we found ourselves in the 1980s - a decade where pop ruled supreme and as far as hair was considered, the bigger the better (even if your name is Margaret Thatcher). As far as music was concerned, we got out our hairbrushes and warbled along to some of the greats from Kylie Minogue, the Human League and Fairground Attraction. On a more serious note we took time to remember events like the wedding of Charles and Diana, the Falklands war, Live Aid and the famine in Ethiopia, and the fall of the Berlin Wall. |

And finally (to coin a phrase) we made it back to the current decade (which we liked to refer to as 'the noughties'). We started by reliving Millennium night itself before moving on to recap some of the major arts and entertainment successes of the decade to date, such as the Harry Potter "phenomenon" and the revival of John Kander and Fred Ebb's musical "Chicago". Staying in the entertainment arena, we also took an amusing look at the nation's obsession with fame by staging our very own version of "I'm a celebrity - get me out of here!" We ended on perhaps a rather sombre note remembering the events of September 11th 2001 and the Asian Tsunami on boxing day 2005. |

We had the time of our lives!

We also decided to pledge the takings of the Friday night performance to The Hannah Parker Appeal. Hannah is a local girl who was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2003. Her family and friends are busy fund-raising so that Hannah can receive Stem Cell Therapy treatment which they hope will go some way towards relieving her symptoms. We were able to raise £300 and Hannah's parents came to our meeting on 6th April 2006 to collect a cheque from us. We hope Hannah will be able to receive her therapy and wish both her and her family well. For more information please visit the appeal's website: www.thehannahparkerappealfund.co.uk/
