1997
Panto - January 23rd, 24th & 25th Idsall School
Dick Whittington by Jim Sperinck.
We're not entirely sure we ever really mastered the bit with the moving barrels, but hopefully the audience didn't notice!
Comedy - May 30th & 31st at Shifnal Village Hall
Four short comedies by Jim Sperinck all on the subject of Holidays:
  • In-Terminal Chat
  • Burst Tyre
  • Taut Canvas
  • Holiday Snaps
C A R N I V A L ! June - The Old Woman who lived in a Shoe
Two Plays - July 11th & 12th at Idsall School
Two plays performed by the two parts of Shifnal Junior Drama Group:
  • A Tree For All Seasons by Sandra Houston - Under 10s group
  • You, Me & Mrs Jones by Tony Horwitz - Over 10s group
Inspector Drake & The Time Machine Comedy - October 10 & 11th at Idsall School
Another one of those murder mystery farces. The professor's dead body in the library, his vanished daughter - and a time machine. Inspector Drake presses the wrong button on the time machine and he and the rather brainless Sargeant Plod get sent to the year 2950 where they meet the Aliens (Macki and Mackeye - who made strange sounds) and the High Priestess of Zircon. Can Inspector Drake foil the plan to take over the world...?
Thanks to a former cast member for reminding me about the aliens. Also thanks to www.flyingducks.biz for a plot synopsis!
1998
Panto - January 22nd, 23rd & 24th at Idsall School
Another panto from the pen of the talented Mrs Houston!
The gooslings and drovers were very sweet. Bless.
Think I had to hide behind a screen to do the music for this one cos I was a bit on the shy-side. *blushes*
A Funny Thing Happened Comedy - May at Shifnal Village Hall
I'm sure I was there, but I need some help with this one! Click the email link above if you can tell me something about it. Is it the one with Piccalilli Circus??
C A R N I V A L ! June - The Jungle Book
Musical/Play - July 17th & 18th at Idsall School
A 'potted' version of this musical performed by the under tens group of the Shifnal Junior Drama Group.
Comedy - October 2nd & 3rd at Idsall School
Confusing murder mystery farce which was subject to several last minute cast alterations for various reasons. Very funny, but was it Mr Cook the Gardener, or Mrs Gardener the Cook who did it?
Fab set - especially the patio doors!

Quick, Quack, Quick!
Musical - November 12th, 13th & 14th at Idsall School
Shifnal Junior Drama Group's first production of 'Bugsy Malone'.
The young cast had a great time on this production. A brilliant performance from everyone, and it certainly didn't matter that there was a shortage of boys.
The cocktails in the foyer and at the aftershow party are also very memorable. John and Adrian might just have missed their calling in that area!
1999
Panto - January 28th, 29th & 30th at Idsall School
This version of Aladdin was written by our very own Sandra Houston.
Again, some lovely costumes thanks to Dawn and fellow stitchers.
PCs Ping and Pong (or was it Sing and Song?!) had an amazing vehicle. It turned on a sixpence. Well....a very large sixpence!
Under The Sea Play - June at Idsall School
Another of Sandra's scripts performed by the younger element of Shifnal Junior Drama Group. This is actually a mini Pantomime - a under-water version of Dick Whittington. This first featured in the group's production of "Dick Whittington" in January 1997.
C A R N I V A L ! June - Alice in Wonderland
Nice Little Earner Play - September/October at Idsall School
A play performed by the older element Shifnal Junior Drama Group. Set in the GB Stores and telling the story of several young people and their career paths. The story was told in a similar style to Heroin Lies by Snap, the photographer, through photos and newspaper articles. Other characters included Doug, Eva the nurse, Carol, Finch and a pushy boss.
Thanks to a former cast member for filling me in on this - Nerys!
Musical - November 11th, 12th & 13th at Idsall School
'Wind In The Willows' by John Morley might have clashed with an "important" football match, but some of the cast and crew still managed to employ ingenious means to keep the audience up to speed with the latest scores. This was the second time the Group had put on this family musical. There were some lovely costumes in this - and a few of them even made a reappearance in Sleeping Beauty 2004!
Another Shifnal Drama Group and Shifnal Junior Drama Group collaboration.
2000
Panto - January 27th, 28th & 29th at Idsall School
A combined Shifnal Drama Group & Shifnal Junior Drama Group production of Sing a Song of Sixpence by Norman Robbins.
We had a few more than four and twenty blackbirds in our pie, but who's counting!
Old Time Music Hall Old Time Music Hall - 12th & 13th May at Shifnal Village Hall
Again, I'm sure I was there, but I must have blanked it out! Click on the email link above to email if you can tell me something about it.
C A R N I V A L ! June - From Oz to Oz
Emotions - July 7th & 8th at Idsall School
A Shifnal Junior Drama Group Production, this was actually a selection of four different pieces, that the group felt covered a range of 'emotions', hence the name. The pieces in question were:
  • Play - Meg & Mog Go to the Moon (Under 11s group 1)
  • Musical - Rooster Rag (Under 11s group 2)
  • Comedy - The Bus Stop (Over 11s group 1)
  • Play - After Midnight, Before Dawn (Over 11s group 2)
Remember the tag-line?!
Today's Actors, Tomorrow's Stars!
Musical - 9th, 10th & 11th November at Idsall School
This musical by Lionel Bart was staged by Shifnal Drama Group and Shifnal Junior Drama Group. We rehearsed for months and it was definitely worth it. A brilliant production all round - excellent peformances, fab costumes, and a cracking set (not literally - it stayed well and truly put until it was dismantled!)
We saw probably the group's largest audience! We were also lucky to gain the services of some young musicians studying for their A-levels who made the music sound great.
The group's finest hour??!
